Elements Montessori: Our PHILOSOPHY

“The science of Peace, were it to become a special discipline, would be the most noble of all, for the very life of humanity depends on it. So, also perhaps, does the question of whether our entire civilization evolves or disappears.” ~ Dr. Maria Montessori

Developing A Sense of Community

Elements Montessori recognizes early childhood education as a means by which to prepare children to live peacefully as adults. Dedicated to the vision of a future marked by environmental stewardship and peaceful interactions, we offer our children the opportunity to mature with an appreciation for social, ecological, and global interconnectedness. We endeavor that as our children make their way into the world, they find harmony, joy, and peace in all their many relationships…from the classroom to the cosmos.

A Nourishing Environment

Dr. Maria Montessori gave her preschools the name, Casa dei Bambini, which is most often translated as meaning Children's House. A more accurate translation is Children's Home, given that Montessori intended her schools to be an extension of the child's home. Elements Montessori’s classroom is flooded with natural light, and is warm and welcoming to children and adults alike. The environment has been carefully prepared and sequenced with Montessori materials by staff trained in the Montessori Method. Elements is without the garish, primary colored, noisy posters, and plastic all too often associated with spaces created for young children.

When you visit, you will find a meticulously kept, cozy space filled with child-sized furniture and wooden shelving, beautiful art on the walls, comfortable work spaces, and of course, Montessori materials including the Pink Tower of Cubes, the Bead Cabinet, and the Puzzle Maps of the Continents. The authentic, Montessori Casa dei Bambini quietly invites use of the senses, spontaneous exploration, independence, self-discipline, and kindness. Elements Montessori is aesthetically appealing and wraps itself around all who enter like a warm blanket.

Elements of Peace

Dr. Maria Montessori was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times during her lifetime. Thirty years after establishing her first Casa dei Bambini, she delivered a series of lectures in which she implored the global community to consider introducing the Science of Peace to early childhood educational programs. Elements Montessori is Paula Doyle’s answer to this plea. At Elements, we share Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy that peacefulness – in its purest form – is an innate, spiritual quality common at birth to all of humanity.
